In my name

There has been some unhappiness expressed with the Process Art Project. A few complained about having to spend so much. A few complained about having their ideas rejected. A few complained about the project being too difficult. A few complained about having to take down their work.

As the project title suggest, it is the Process that counts. Different ideas and projects will have different processes. And it is not just about the process of doing, but I think we should all focus on the process of THINKING, both linearly and visually. This is probably the main reason why some projects are accepted, while others are not.

Real Art is more than looking pretty and nice. It is more than a pretty face or a pretty message. Its only legitimate goal is to shock the audience, unsettle people, make them think, make real changes to the world. Anything else is pure decoration.

What would you do if you want to make a message in your name?

New Sec 1 Artworks

I have been updating the gallery with some of last term’s Sec 1 work. I realised I returned many assignments to the students before I could document some of them and I really would like to keep record of all the good artwork. So if you have any good works (9-10 marks) or you know your friend has them and they are not in the gallery, I like to encourage you to pass them to me for scanning and uploading. Thanks!

Shapes and Design Assignment

I might not have been very clear in explaining to the first few classes during this week because of the time constraint, so I am going to clarify a few things about your assignment.

  • For the first 2 smaller 6cm box, you are to use a phrase that was in the list I showed on the Powerpoint. For the big box, you may come up with your own phrase, e.g. take a phrase from a song lyric, etc.
  • You are only allowed to use 1 colour in each design. But you can use different shades and tints of that colour.
  • For the big box, you may use squares, triangles and circles but not rectangles or ovals. And you will also have to cut out those shapes as well.
  • Do not draw or paint any lines or shapes anywhere in the box or on the squares/triangles/circles. They can only have plain flat colours.
  • A concession - the background may be painted with a smooth gradation or a simple blend of different shades, e.g. blending from light blue to dark blue.
  • Think about your design. In design, a brilliant unique and creative idea is everything.
