Bleed Asobi Seksu

Posted by kifo on September 29th, 2007

It is called bleeding music not because I am trying to be vulgar, but I am referring to their cutting edge avant garde approach to their music. It is the courage to make music that might not please the majority of the public. The music bleeds creativity.

Here is something that is not actually very new as this album was out last year, but I haven’t seen much mention of them in the news (not that I watch any). Here is Asobi Seksu with Thursday.

Bleeding Music

Posted by kifo on September 29th, 2007

I decided to start featuring great new songs that are not mainstream here. I am sick of the endless Sean “Listen-to-me-squeak” Kingston, Kanye “I-am-so-cool” West, High School Pukesical, Fergie Unglamorous and 50 rupees! Time for the lesser known but more daring and experimental bands to be heard!

Here is The Go! Team with their new catchy single “Grip Like a Vice”

The SS they never teach in school?

I was surprised to read a well-written and researched piece by one of my former students on the current Myanmar bloodshed. You can read his article “Singapore Debt of Honour” here on TheOnlineCitizen.

Currently, one Singaporean who has been working in Myanmar for the past 11 years has been shot with rubber bullets on his way to his office. You can see pictures of the rubber bullets wound here. The same news can be seen reported here on Straits Times, curiously without the photo of the bullet casing.

Next time when you travel to some 3rd world dictatorship country, be careful because you might be shot with bullets Made in Singapore.

P.S. The Dirty List on the Burma Campaign UK website indicates several Singaporean companies that does business in Burma. It is important to note that most of those Singaporean companies are our major banks - DBS, UOB and OCBC. Our banks provide banking services to the Myanmar military regime because other international banks do not do business with a military regime that have been charged with “crimes against humanity” by the UN.

P.S. Of course this is nothing compared to the Japanese journalist Nagai Kenji who was shot while covering the protest. The force of the bullet at such a close range caused the journalist to fly through the air, punctured through his lower back, pass through his heart and exited the body. He was left to die on the street.

Sale at Creative Hands

Posted by kifo on September 28th, 2007

Creative Hands at Taka has been having a sale for a long while, but recently the offer just keep getting better. They seem to be getting rid of their outdated and end-of-line products. Perhaps they are moving or closing down?

The best stuff on offer now are the Windsor and Newton Artist Sketchbooks. They are going at 70% discount! They are all in faux black leather cover and comes in ring binding and book binding. Totally classic looking. I bought a 160 page A4 ring bound sketchbook for just less than 8 dollars.

They also have some artist quality Acrylic paints in 60ml tubes on sale at $3 each. They look a bit old but the paint inside still looks okay. Well you should still check before buying. I bought a ton of colours which I normally wouldn’t buy as they are usually expensive colours.

I also bought a few Windsor and Newton’s brushes which were going at 50% off. They are very nice brushes and Windsor and Newton are well known for their brush quality.
