Let’s get it clear

Posted by kifo on January 24th, 2007

I think that it may be the beginning of the year and this is your first time in upper sec art so you don’t really understand…

Upper Sec Art Lessons (Sec 3 & 4) are the highlight of my week. I spent the most amount of time every week preparing and getting ready for each lesson, trying to make sure you enjoy what you are learning and improve yourself. Hence I get very disappointed when people don’t turn up. If you have a good reason, you must let me know before the lesson begins.

Sometimes you have something on and need to be excused, I will not be unreasonable. But you need to see my point of view if you want me to see yours too.

Brief Update

Posted by kifo on January 20th, 2007

Sorry I am soooo tied down with work to do and I haven’t the time to update this place for a while. So a few quick notes to peeps…

Sec 4
- Yes you can do it! I know all of you can do it. You just need to work harder this time and finish your work earlier! No more late submissions! I know I have been rather demanding when I critique your ideas but I am hoping you can achieve so much more if you can agonise and think over it for a while more now. Start with a great idea, the results will be greater! Remember, sometimes making Art is like having a baby. 9 months!

P.S. Ditch all the clichés and hackneyed truths! Ban all trite stereotypes and stock characters! There is no better world. There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. Good does not necessary triumph over evil. The devil is not red, he does not have horns nor does he carry the trident. White man can jump. Rich people are not all materialistic. Virtuous people are also not saints. Friends are not always forever. Life is not unfair, neither is it a bitch. Parting is not sweet sorrow. What doesn’t kill you may not make you stronger. Time does not heal all wounds. And you will not survive.

Sec 3
- The design stuff are all coming along nicely… Now I need someone good with Photoshop to help me. I can do it myself but I don’t have time…. So who is good??? :D
- All of you are doing really great in the lessons. Don’t worry if you are slow now. We are going to practice lots and lots until everyone speed picks up.

Sec 1
- Hello! I am still waiting for more class labels to come in. I hope to put up some hand drawing on the gallery here soon.

GESS
- Hello if you are visiting!

Course Outline

Posted by kifo on January 15th, 2007

I have actually updated the Course Outline, i.e. curriculum for Sec 1, 3 and 4 in the school website. You can now see your curriculum outline there.

Finally updated

Posted by kifo on January 15th, 2007

I finally got down to uploading last year’s Sec 2 End-of-year Drawing and Painting Exam pieces. For many of you, that piece might have been the last ever proper painting you are going to do in Secondary School. It is so common to hear from many adults that the last time they did a proper artwork was in Sec 2. Well this is the sad reality. If you ask me what is Binomial Theorem, what are Surds, how to factorise Quadratic Equations, what is the difference between alkenes and alkanes, etc. etc. I would have absolutely no idea. Well luckily now I can search for everything on the Internet if I need to revise as I managed to recently. It is great how suddenly everything comes back to you after looking at some of examples they put on the websites. And then I remembered all the strain and effort I put into studying, memorising and practising those things when I was a student too.

But the thing is, there are always some knowledge and skills that we all gradually give up as we grow older (and many other things as well). It is inevitable as we end up specialising in one field or involved in a line of work that hardly ever requires you to apply all the things you have learnt. But continue learning, and learning is always such a joy!
